Fundamental theory for dynamic spectrum access

Anantram Swami, Civ, ARL/CISD (aswami@arl.army.mil) and Qing Zhao, UC Davis (qzhao@ece.ucdavis.edu)

Dynamic spectrum access (DSA) has become a recent focus of research to cope with the apparent scarcity of spectrum due to fixed allocation and the obvious pervasiveness of spectrum opportunity due to limited usage. Research challenges span multiple disciplines such as sensing and signal processing, multiple access, routing, cooperative networking, information and network theories. This special session will focus on core theoretical issues underlying DSA, such as capacity analyses, characterization of minimum overhead, and fundamental performance limits of opportunistic spectrum access.
